It’s the Great Pumpkin
Today we ventured out to the Tanaka Farms pumpkin patch. This was everyone’s first time here. And especially for Zella, her first time ever around pumpkins. The farm was gigantic. There was a wagon ride around the property, a petting zoo, corn maze, and of course pumpkins as far as the eyes could see. They were also launching pumpkins through the air via a cannon. Everyone there was in the holiday spirit. Kids running around. Parents trying to corral the kids together for pictures. Everyone getting muddy as they trample across the rows and rows of pumpkins.
What was the most amazing part of all this? Tanaka Farms sits smack in the middle of Irvine. Yes, the land of concrete and cookie-cutter housing. I’m surprised it hasn’t been bulldozed over and commercially developed. But I’m glad it hasn’t. It was a unique experience to have a “u-pick” pumpkin patch within the city limits. A little bit of country in suburbia.
